With this painting, I decided to focus on the mountains more than I usually do - in fact, almost the opposite of what I normally do. They become the focal point. Purple mountains vs. orange sky. The sky is depicted as calmer, lazier, and not demanding of your eye, which is the opposite of the land mass. The foreground below the mountains is suggestive of trees maybe following a creek bed the way trees and bushes do in nature. I think this painting looks like you could be traveling, looking out to the side of the car, and seeing a glimpse of this landscape… at least to me, that is what it feels like. I started this painting about ten years ago and now have finally finished it.
