I wanted a looser approach to the sky to make the atmosphere become not so patterned. Runs of paint and transparent paint application gives a nice, warm overall effect: not much heavy drama but enough to make you want to look and keep your interest.
The sky contrasts with the silhouette of the mountain ranges. That is the subtle drama in the painting. The palette varies but is balanced from a darker sky at the top down to more mellow colors. Finally, the two-colored mountain range uses solid colors in contrast to the transparent colors elsewhere.
