This painting depicts the change of seasons, but it doesn’t define which ones. It could be going into summer or fall, winter or spring – there is undefined change in the air. The color in the sky suggests change: temperature change, visual change, movement. I believe paintings need a place where you can rest your eyes. Your eye stops moving for a second and gives your brain a rest so it can catch up and things can make sense. In this painting, the mountain range is that place. It is interesting with engaging shapes and is easily identified as a mountain range and desert floor. The palette defines the earth even more than the shapes of the mountains… this is familiar to us
